A Gentler Approach to a More Beautiful Smile
Another type of soft tissue root coverage grafting procedure is one that utilizes a new product called Mucograft. It is another reliable alternative that eliminates the need to take tissue from the roof of your mouth. You experience less pain and discomfort without having a second surgical site. It helps you have a great smile with a natural aesthetic outcome.
What is a Mucograft?
A Mucograft is a porcine collagen matrix that is ready to use right out of the box. This matrix gives you a predictable alternative to using your own tissue and offers the advantages of being readily available. This collagen matrix is a unique material designed to support the regrowth of your gum tissue. The results are the same as using your own tissue. It can be used for root coverage and augmenting soft tissue.
Safety of Mucografts
Mucograft, like artificial heart valves and other widely used surgical devices, is prepared using special processing and sterilization procedures. Every batch of Mucograft undergoes a series of tests to confirm that it is sterile and safe.
Before and After
Below is a case that was completed using Mucograft to cover exposed roots. In the post-operative photo the roots are covered and now have a pleasing youthful appearance. The tissue will continue to remodel and their appearance will continue to improve.
Root surfaces are now covered and protected following grafting with Mucograft material.
After Surgery
These procedures are relatively pain-free! You will be prescribed a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication (NSAIDs) for any minor discomfort you may experience. A prescription mouthwash will be used to cleanse the site. Dr. Crofcheck is always available to answer any questions or concerns that you might have at 281-286-0056.
Healing Process
In time, Allografts will allow regrowth of your own healthy tissue. Soon, you won’t be able to tell a surgical procedure was completed.
